When we help
Common situations we help with
Every matter is different, but the following situations come up frequently. If any of these sound like yours, we can help.
- You have decided to divorce and want to understand the process
- You and your partner want to file jointly
- You need help completing the online divorce application
- You are separating without being married and need a separation agreement
- You need to coordinate divorce with financial and children matters
Frequently asked
Common questions
- How long does a no-fault divorce take?
- There is a minimum period of 20 weeks between the application being issued and the conditional order, plus a further 6 weeks before the final order can be applied for. Straightforward divorces typically complete in 7 to 8 months.
- Do I need to give reasons for the divorce?
- No. Since 6 April 2022, you only need to confirm the marriage has broken down irretrievably. Blame is no longer relevant.
- Can we apply jointly?
- Yes. Joint applications are often quicker and less contentious. You can also switch from joint to sole later if needed.
- What about our finances?
- Divorce and financial remedies are separate processes. We recommend addressing financial matters via a consent order or financial remedy application before the final order is made.
